Magazzino Italian Art Foundation Opens Research Center and Announces First Scholar-in-Residence

Magazzino Italian Art Foundation today announced the opening of its new Research Center and the appointment of Francesco Guzzetti, its first Scholar-in-Residence. Advancing Magazzino’s mission to promote the study and appreciation of Italian Postwar and Contemporary art, the Research Center will create new opportunities for scholarly research and critical assessment. Located in the Miguel Quismondo-designed building in the Hudson Valley, adjacent to the exhibition galleries, the new Research Center holds an extensive library of publications, rare books, and archives of Italian art and design from the 1950s to the present.

The Research Center library currently holds over 4,000 publications, including more than 300 rare books, and significant and unique archival materials. Underscoring Magazzino’s educational mission, the library will provide the opportunity for scholars, researchers, students, and visitors to more deeply engage with objects in the collection and contemporary Italian art. The library will be accessible to the public through advance appointment on Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Foundation has also employed Francesco Guzzetti as a Scholar-in-Residence to work in the Research Center. Francesco will conduct important research on Arte Povera, which will enhance the Foundation’s educational efforts. As Scholar-in-Residence, Guzzetti will lead tours of the current exhibition, Arte Povera: From the Olnick Spanu Collection; organize, present, and participate in public programs; and contribute new research on objects in the collection. Guzzetti will also work with the new Research Center to bolster its library holdings, advising on key archival and research materials to acquire.
