Remembering Ferruccio Franzoia
June 23, 2023
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Ferruccio Franzoia (1937–2023), student of Carlo Scarpa, collector, and profound connoisseur of Venetian Glass. Born in Feltre in 1937, Ferruccio demonstrated an uncanny eye for art and design from an early age. After graduating in Architecture in Venice with Carlo Scarpa, he went on to have an incredibly successful career coordinating important restorations like the Iron Door of Palazzo Contarini in Venice; renovating the Ernesto Rubin de Cervin’s apartment in Palazzo Albrizzi, and overseeing the construction of the library of the Castello di Egna in Bolzano.
Thanks to his profound knowledge and his infallible ability to recognize quality and beauty, Ferruccio and his wife Carla Nasci amassed a remarkable collection of Murano Glass over 30 years. Wanting to share their love of art and Murano Glass with the public, they donated a part of their collection to Galleria d’Arte Moderna Carlo Rizzarda in Feltre in the Province of Belluno and over 1,600 drawings to the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona.
Ferruccio Franzoia was not only a great friend to Magazzino Italian Art's Co-founders Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu but also helped with the presentation of the Olnick Spanu Murano Glass Collection at the Spazio Oberdan in 2001. The team at Magazzino Italian Arts extends our heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family. His legacy will never be forgotten and will continue to live on at Magazzino Italian Art.
