Widewalls: Magazzino Italian Art Celebrates Its Six Years Anniversary and Michelangelo Pistoletto's 90th Birthday
June 25, 2023

One of the leading figures of the Italian Arte Povera movement was Michelangelo Pistoletto, who started his career as a painter in the mid-1950s but soon adopted a different artistic expression in the 1960s. Among his most recognizable works from this period are Quadri specchianti or Mirror Paintings — made of highly polished steel panels upon which the artist transferred photographic, life-size pictures of figures and objects — that went beyond art conventions of the time and set in motion other explorations of boundaries of art and experience.
Celebrating his 90th birthday, Magazzino Italian Art will unveil a special exhibition dedicated to the artist and, at the same time, mark its sixth anniversary. A truly momentous occasion for the artist and the museum, the show is part of a broader project that will focus on each of the twelve artists of the Arte Povera movement.
