Widewalls: The Robert Olnick Pavilion at Magazzino Italian Art is Now Open to the Public
September 20, 2023

The Campus of Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring just got richer with another 13,000-square-foot building in the form of Robert Olnick Pavilion. The new space will allow the Magazzino to shift slightly from its signature Arte Povera offering and present the heights of Italian art in all its modern and contemporary glory.
Not one, not two, but three inaugural exhibitions usher in the new pavilion. The first is a survey of work by Lybia-born Italian painter Mario Schifano, open through January 8th. It's the first comprehensive survey of Schifano's works from the 60s and the 70s in any major institution. The second is a decidedly more modern affair - a series of five works by Ettore Spalletti adjusted especially to Gallery 2 of the pavilion, whose perfect cube is punctured by light-transmitting windows. The third inaugural exhibition brings a selection of Murano glasswork by Carlo Scarpa.
