Irene Dionisio was born in Turin in 1986, where she currently lives and works. She is a filmmaker, a visual artist, and a teacher. She has a degree in Philosophy of History and earned an MI in Cinema and Philosophy at UPJV in Amiens, France. Her artistic production includes video-installations and documentaries presented at various international festivals and awarded numberous prizes, including the Premio Cariddi, Premio Solinas, Premio Scam in France, and the Jury Prize at the Cinema Verité in Iran. Her videos have also been screened at PAC in Milan, the Museo Berardo in Lisbon, and the MAMbo in Bologna, as well as in other international galleries. In 2018, she was the only Italian artist invited to the Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement in Geneva. Le ultime cose (Tempesta) (2016), her first fiction feature film, premiered during Critics' Week in Venice: distributed by the Istituto Luce Cinecittà in the fall of 2016, it has been shown in numerous international festivals and was awarded a David di Donatello in 2017 and a Golden Globe also in 2017 as the best first work. It also won a special Silver Ribbon Award for the screenplay in 2017.
Antonio Fiorentino was born in Barletta in 1987 and currently lives and works in Milan. He has received several emerging artist awards, among which, the 2015 Talent Prize. Silvia Giambrone was born in Agrigento in 1981 and currently lives and works between Rome and London. She held residences throughout Europe and the United States and was awarded several prizes and served as ambassador for Kaunas 2022. Elena Mazzi was born in Reggio Emilia in 1984 and currently lives and works in Venice. In 2011 she received an MFA in Visual Art from IUAV, Venice University. In 2010-2011 she was selected for an exchange program at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. Luca Monterastelli was born in Forlimpopoli (Forlì-Cesena) in 1983 and currently lives and works in Milan. Valentina Ornaghi and Claudio Prestinari were born in 1986 and in 1984, respectively, in Milan, where they live and work. The former artist has a degree in Industrial Design, the latter a degree in Architecture, both from Milan Polytechnic. They continued their studies at the Università IUAV in Venice. In 2016 they had a first solo show in New York, curated by Vittorio Calabrese, at New York University - Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò. They have had many group shows and their solo shows include: Galleria Continua, San Gimignano 2014 and 2018, and MAMbo - Casa Morandi, Bologna 2017. In 2012 they were awarded the Premio Regione Veneto by the Bevilacqua la Masa Foundation (Venice), and in 2018 the Club GAMeC Prize. In 2017 they presented the public sculpture Filemone e Bauci (Philemon and Baucis) for the new ArtLine park in CityLife in Milan. They have participated in workshops and residences, including ones at the Spinola Banna per l’Arte Foundation, Turin 2011; VIR-Viafarini in residence, Milan 2013; Artista x Artista, the first international residence in Havana 2016. In 2017 they were the winners of a residency at Museo Carlo Zauli in Faenza, with a final show at MIC Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche.
Gian Maria Tosatti was born in Rome in 1980 and currently lives and works in New York. He has produced cycles of works such as Devozioni, Rome 2005-2011; I’ve Already Been Here, New York 2011-in progress; Sette Stagioni dello Spirito, Naples 2013-2016; New Men’s Land, Calais 2015-2016: all these works have generated a transformation process for symbolic cities in which the artist decided to work. Tosatti has authored books and essays about art and politics and is a cultural contributor to newspapers and magazines. His work has been shown at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome 2017; the Petah Tikva Museum of Art, Petah Tikva 2017; the MADRE Museum, Naples 2016; the Hessel Museum of the CCS Bard, New York 2014; the Museo Archeologico, Salerno 2014. Il mio cuore è vuoto come uno specchio (Palazzo Biscari, Catania 2018) was included into the Collateral Events of Manifesta 18. He was awarded the 2016 New York Prize, the 2014 Talent Prize, the 2008 Terna Prize. “Domus” magazine featured his permanent work at Castel Sant’Elmo in Naples among the best ten shows in the world in 2014. He was one of “ArtReview’s” Future Greats in 2015.
Eugenia Vanni was born in Siena in 1980, and continues to live and work there. Serena Vestrucci was born in Milan in 1986 and currently lives and works there. She obtained a Bachelor's degree at the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan and a Master’s degree at the IUAV University of Venice. She also won a scholarship from the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice. In 2017 she was the winner of the 18th Premio Cairo and she was selected by the City of Milan to make a permanent public work in the new CityLife district. She has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at several institutions, including: Gallery of Modern Art, Verona 2017; Archaeological Museum Antonio Salinas, Palermo 2017; Marsèlleria Permanent Exhibition, Milan 2016; Museum of Contemporary Art Villa Croce, Genoa 2015. Her group shows include Palazzo Reale, Milan 2015; FRISE Künstlerhaus, Hamburg 2014; Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, Turin 2014; Gallery of Modern Art, Milan 2012; Stedelijk Museum, ‘S-Hertogenbosch 2011.
About the Contributors
Ilaria Bernardi is a contemporary art historian, critic, and curator. She earned a PhD in Art History at the Ca’ Foscari-IUAV University (Venice) and a Master’s Degree in Art History at the University of Florence. She worked for the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art (Rivoli-Turin) under the direction of Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and, previously, for the Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini (Turin). Recently she was the curator, Daniela Lancioni, for the first retrospective on Cesare Tacchi’s oeuvre held in Rome, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, in 2018. Specializing in Italian art from the 1960s to today, she also curated exhibitions about Italian artists including Rodolfo Aricò and Tano Festa, and in 2011 she worked for Florence’s Municipality as artistic coordinator of “Florence White Night,” an important event devoted to contemporary art. She is the author of the monographs La Tartaruga. Storia di una galleria (Postmediabooks, Milan 2018), Giulio Paolini. Opere su carta: un laboratorio gestuale per la percezione dell’immagine (Prinp, Turin 2017), Teatro delle Mostre, Roma, Maggio 1968 (Scalpendi Publisher, Milan 2014), and she curated the book Arte e impresa published by Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art (Rivoli-Turin 2017). Moreover, she has published several essays in exhibition catalogs, as well as articles in sector magazines, and she has delivered lectures on Italian art and artists during several conferences in Italy and abroad.
